We're looking for the best writing, fiction and nonfiction. We love short stories, essays, memoir fragments, longform journalism, or novel excerpts. What you call it is not important. But the story is.

Set your manuscript in a 12-point serif font (like Times New Roman) and double space it. We don't have a specific word count, but 5,000 is a good place to start. We pay 5¢ per word up to 5,000 words ($250) as our base rate, and we pay on publication.

Note: WIL's Submittable plan requires a minimum $2 processing fee (we receive only 91¢ per story you send unsolicited). If that's too much, please email us a query, and we'll get back to you. We want everyone to feel like they can submit their work. No one should be excluded from submitting based on fees.
